We are not cops and neither are we men.  Whether they are passing by momentarily or not does not matter.  We have nothing to do with that scene or that call, the next door neighbor says upon being interviewed by the local news outlet.  Tomorrow morning, we will see a neatly crafted investigative story printed in our daily newspapers on the corner.  Our precise aim will be to read it and then weep, or laugh.  Either way, our neighbors and the dogs in our backyards won’t be able to tell the difference.  We are not cops and neither are we listening now, yesterday or tomorrow morning. Are we okay?
